Elderly Care

the Lectorate ICT Innovations in Healthcare started this project in collaboration with Windesheim University of Applied Sciences students to work together with students to create ideas for better integration of technology and wellness for elderly with the main goal to let elderly live in their own home environment

This Project was graded a 9! and won the Teachers Awards for best product!

On the right you can see the concept. this concept is focused on the lonely elderly and bringing them in frequent contact with their families.

It started with the question how can I make the elderly a part of their families life as in participating in their daily routine. So imagine two rooms next to each other separated by a wall and 1 single round window with curtains on both sides. If the curtains are open there is an instant connection between the two worlds and it’s a completely different experience as calling.

I translated this idea into a product. the product comes in a pair one box for the elderly and one box for family or close friend. You can knock on the box and this knock will be send real time to the other box the identical same knock. If you open the lid you can see a very simple user interface and if both lids are open there will be an instant video call connection between the two devices.

It will also be possible to share pictures of your daily life with the elderly from your phone to tablet to the box device of the elderly so they can open the box and might find a little postcard with a message.

The goal of this concept is to bring the 2 or 3 generation closer to each other by reducing the threshold of calling. Its a very intuitive interaction.

Field Research

Interviewing seniors on their daily life and medical needs as part of orientation and research phase

Focus Group

During the Elderly Care project a focus group was organized to observe reactions to the concept, several mock-ups were used to make it tangible for the elderly. a lot of insights were gained from such focus groups.
